I was very excited to find my first Wittlebee box waiting at my doorstop when we got home today! Ok, so what if I was stalking my tracking number and knew it was going to be there? What's Wittlebee you ask? Well, it's a great idea, is what it is! You pay $39.99 a month and they send you eight items of clothing based on the style profile you fill out during the registration process. According to their website, the clothing in each box is valued at over $100. This would mean I'd basically never have to go shopping again. Oh! It's not that I don't
love shopping, but let's just say... it's not as easy as it used to be. Moms, you know what I mean.
Here are a few of the questions and my answers.
This is what I got.
First, loved the packaging!
Of course I notice the airplane first! We love all things airplanes. Obviously.
Let's break this down, and I'll tell you my thoughts along the way.
Items #1 and #2
Like I said, we love all things airplanes, so I do like this outfit. The brand is Gioberti, which I've never heard of. That means nothing. But upon looking at their
website, it says they "only sell online to their wholesale customers." The tag on the t-shirt says MSRP $24.95. I would have not paid that for this outfit. The shorts seem... thin?
Items #3 and #4
Eh. I'm not really into "trucks," so this is definitely something I wouldn't have picked out myself. The brand is Kid's Headquarters. Never heard of it, but from a quick internet search it appears that Belk sells it. The tag says MSRP $30.00. I would have never paid $30 for this. I like it ok. If you notice on one of the style profile questions, it asks "which graphics best fits his style?" Trucks was an option, and I did not select it. The shorts are definitely on the thin-does-not-appear-to-be-good-quality side as well. The t-shirt is ok.
Item #5
I do love this onesie. This is actually my favorite item in the box. Definitely something I'd pick out. The brand is Haute Stuff. There is no tag, but after doing a
quick search, most of this brand's onesies appear to go for $15.
Item #6 and #7
I might be from Virginia, but even this is a little too redneck for my taste. Totally not my style, in any way, shape, or form. The shorts are so so so thin. Horrible quality. The t-shirt has a hole in it. Also notice that this is the second t-shirt with TRUCKS on it. The brand is... oh who cares. I hate it.
And finally, item #8
Pajamas! There is actually a style preference that asks if you would like specific "accessories," and I did select pajamas. We love footed pajamas for Christian and it's the only thing he sleeps in. And this is perfect, especially with the lizards and honu. They must have seen they were shipping this box to Hawaii. Although, again, the material seems a little thin. The brand is
Skivvydoodles.
BUT... all in all, I wasn't impressed. I wasn't pleased with the quality of the clothing, or the "styles" I received. I got one blue item - my color choices were grey, blue, and green. The rest of the clothing I received were red, yellow, and brown. I asked for animals and stripes - I received the one set of pajamas with the animals. No stripes. Lots of trucks.
At first I was just going to exchange the one outfit with the hole in it, but now I want to return all of it. I'm emailing customer service to find out about returning everything, getting a refund, and canceling my subscription. Sad, but true. I really really really REALLY wanted to love this service. But I'd rather just drive to the Carter's outlet in Waikele and get the same amount of stuff for about the same price, and I know the quality is decent. And there's usually some kind of sale at The Children's Place, and their pajamas are my favorite. Or Cater Kids, where I can usually find good stuff secondhand, a lot of times with the tags still on it.
To their credit, this is a great idea in theory, and I've seen that their customer service responds really fast to questions/issues/comments on Facebook. And it really does seem to be a split - people either really loved what they got, or they didn't. I really hate that I fall into the "didn't" category.
Update: Wittlebee customer service emailed me back this morning. "I'm sorry to hear that you were displeased. Please return box to Wittlebee at ... Your account will be credited upon receipt. Thanks." Quick response. Short, to the point. Bummed to have to pay for shipping, but guess I just have to cut my losses.
